South of Vienna's main train station, the Sonnwendviertel is an urban district that offers numerous apartments, workplaces and various recreational opportunities around the Helmut Zilk Park. The residential project "ADELE", consisting of five buildings with 284 privately financed rental apartments, was realized on an area of approx. 8,500 m². The planning was done by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects and Ganahl Ifsits. Vasko+Partner as general consultant is responsible for all remaining planning services until completion. Great importance was attached to high-quality, yet affordable living. Among other things, residents have access to an in-house pool area, a supermarket, a public kindergarten and a fitness center.
Due to the special location at the park, the use of outdoor space was very important to the planners. Each apartment therefore has a loggia, balcony or terrace. The special highlight is large balconies that cantilever far over the corner and thus offer a beautiful all-round view. From a structural point of view, however, this was a challenge because the loads add up in two directions. The problem was solved by manufacturing the balconies, including the parapet, as 3D precast elements. For the structural engineers, the Schöck Isokorb® T type W was the only solution to realize the balconies as planned. For the standard balconies, the Isokorb® XT type K with 120 mm insulation thickness was used as a load-bearing thermal insulation element.
At 35 meters, the tallest of the five buildings has special fire protection requirements. These could be met to the highest standard with the Isokorb® in fire resistance class REI120.
In bridge-like balconies with cold partition walls, the Schöck Sconnex® type W came into use in addition to the Isokorb®. Schöck heavy-duty dowels type SLD were installed for load transfer at the expansion joints in the base area.
